LIS 644-Idea Box

About this collection

"Idea Box" is a collection of items relating to or created in Idea Box, a makerspace housed within the Main Library branch of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library.  The chronology of the items begins with the planning stages for the space, including architectural drawings and early meeting notes.  The collection then includes a video and photo created during opening night of the space.  In addition, the collection contains a manual for one of the pieces of equipment in the space, and a unique loom- an inkle loom- that is housed in Idea Box.  Finally, the collection also contains meeting notes, program agendas, and staff-created artifacts created relatively recently.  Idea Box is a space where staff and the public can come to create, using equipment such as 3D printers, a laser cutter, looms, and sewing machines.  Materials are provided for low or no cost to library patrons, and instructional programs are regularly offered.  As this is the first makerspace within the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, this collection will serve as a repository of information on how to create a library makerspace for other Charlotte Mecklenburg libraries, or for other libraries throughout America.
