About this collection

Asheboro's Historic Sunset Theatre Act Two: Preservation, Restoration is a project for the digitization of the Asheboro Public Library, Randolph Room collection of advertisements for the historic Sunset Theatre. The digital collection includes advertisements for the Sunset Theatre from Asheboro's The Courier newspaper, beginning with the Theatre's grand opening in March 1930. The collection draws advertisements from the years in which the theatre was an active movie-house, from the years 1930-1981 (including the years the Sunset was renamed the "Flick" from 1975-1981). The collection also includes photographs of the Sunset Theatre from various time periods, including its restoration in 2013. This collection is targeted toward historical movie house enthusiasts and those interested in the historical heritage of Randolph County - in particular, downtown Asheboro, North Carolina.
