Description | Etta Mae Godwin began this scrapbook in 1934 (noted on the front cover of scrapbook). Within the scrapbook are photographs of her student life and career spaning from the years of 1932 to 1937. She graduated in the 45th Commencement of what is now UNCG with a Bachelor of Arts degree on June 7th,1937 at 10:30am. She was featured in the 1936 Junior class pictures in the Pine Needle Yearbook. Likewise, she was pictured in the 1937 Pine Needle Yearbook as a senior majoring in Grammar Grade Education. The class of 1937 was represented with the colors of blue and white and by the sweet pea flower. She was a member of the Education club (1937) and Botany Club (1934-1937). She was inducted in the Botany club on November 16th, 1934 as announced in The Carolinian that year. In her senior year, she was also a member of the Dikean society known to "...speak with reverberant grandeur." She pursued a career in teaching and married Thomas Lowe. She was a supporter of W.C. as an alumna through her giving to the 1952-1953 Alumnae Fund, the first of its kind created in that year and was purposed for unrestricted use toward the university (The Carolinian, April 9, 1954). She was featured in the alumni reunion documents for the class of 1937 and was reflected to have lived in Durham, County in 1981 at 1809 So Hi Drive, Durham, NC. |
